Accreditation: Through our Flexible Credit Accumulation scheme, completion of this course will also provide you with 20 credits towards the Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology (60 credits), the Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology (120 credits) and the full MSc in Rehabilitation Studies (180 credits in total).

Summary

  • The use of person-centred, cognitive and behavioural approaches to help people manage their difficulties more effectively, and to help people become more assertive in managing communication difficulties. 
  • The use of psychodynamic approaches to understand relational factors in inhibiting or promoting personal understanding and change.
  • Consideration of the ease with which different groups of patients may adapt to changes in their abilities, for example different age groups, diagnostic groups and cultural groups.
  • Consideration of the influence of particular factors such as age/life stage, cognitive impairment, mental health and social and interpersonal context on ability to make plans and change behaviour.

Aims

To consider and apply a range of psychological approaches and techniques within a biopsychosocial framework in order to enable behavioural change, and to develop awareness of the professional, ethical and personal issues involved.
