We offer the following:
You do not need to apply separately for an income based scholarship. Aston University will automatically access your eligibility for these scholarships using the information you supply to your appropriate student finance government organisation.

Your eligibility for an income based scholarship is re-assessed every year.

You do not need to apply separately for an Excellence Scholarship. The University will automatically assess your eligibility when you apply and when you receive your A Level (or equivalent) results.

You do not need to apply separately for a placement year scholarship. The University will automatically assess your eligibility.

You can choose how you want your scholarship money. You can request: 

  • a discount on Aston University accommodation fees, OR 
  • a discount on tuition fees, OR
  • a cash bursary 

Scholarships during your placement year only offer a on tuition fee discount - making the placement year fee free for the majority of our students.

A fee discount means that you take out a smaller loan. A fee discount will ensure that you have less to pay back over your working life.

Most scholarships at Aston are not limited by number but are based on household income or academic performance. We estimate that around 65% of our students will be eligible for some level of scholarship from Aston University based on statistics from previous years’ intakes of students.

You will need to apply for Government support before the deadline - usually May each year via the Student Finance England website.

The Aston National Scholarship Programme (NSP) is limited to 235 in 2013. Students who are not eligible for the NSP but fall within the eligibility criteria, will be able to qualify for other Aston income based scholarships.
The UK Government sets and agrees equivalent standards. These may include Pre U, Advanced Diplomas, IB etc, but please check www.direct.gov.uk/yourfuture

You will be entitled to extensive UK Government loan support for tuition fees (including the placement year) and living costs. Aston University’s student accommodation is already amongst the cheapest in the UK on a like-for-like basis and the cost of living in Birmingham is also low.

The Aston placement year or year abroad is already heavily subsidised with a fee of £1,000 giving our students excellent work experience and a foot in the door of the employment market. There will be no tuition fee if your placement year is unpaid, irrespective of your household income.

Aston is also offering free additional language tuition for all new students in addition to our existing peer mentoring, entrepreneurship and global citizenship programmes to all our students in 2013. Find out more
