Welfare and support

We take the needs of international students very seriously and aim to provide the necessary support and advice throughout your time at Aston, to ensure it is as worry-free as possible.

The University’s extensive welfare and support services for all students include on-campus health services, a Students’ Advice Centre, a University Chaplaincy and campus prayer rooms. We also have a full-time International Student Adviser who provides advice and assistance on a range of issues such as immigration or Visa renewal.

An international welcome conference is organised as part of an orientation programme to support new students and help you to settle in to University life. Activities arranged as part of the programme include social events, with days out to local places of interest, and an official welcome reception.

All international students receive pre-departure information, which includes useful information on preparing to come to the UK.

Aston Student Advice Point

The Aston Student Advice Point (ASAP) brings our key student support services together in a single place, making it easy for you to access support and information.

The friendly and experienced ASAP team can deal with most non-academic issues and services are confidential.  If they are unable to help directly, they will always refer you to someone who can help.

ASAP is open throughout the day during term-time and you can drop-in to speak to a member of the team, use the resource centre or access the internet for free on our suite of computers.

ASAP's International Student Support Unit provides a high quality and efficient visa and immigration service as well as dealing with all welfare issues, from integrating with UK culture to homesickness and the practical issues or challenges we all face from time to time. The team is well experienced, professional and approachable and if they are unable to assist directly, they will always you to someone who can help.
