Logistics is concerned with the flow of materials in the supply chain; from source through the total industrial process to the customer and then on to disposal or re-use/re-cycling.
By co-ordinating all resources logistics ensures that service levels are acceptable to customers.
Our programme will provide you with a detailed understanding and knowledge of logistics and its place in all types of industries. The range of professional and general management skills you will develop will be invaluable for careers in logistics and many other areas of graduate employment.
You will examine all aspects of logistics, covering the whole spectrum of the ‘supply chain’. You will achieve this through studying human resource management, financial management, systems analysis and information technology. Logistics is sometimes referred to as ‘the time-related positioning of resources’ since it is involved in each stage of a product’s or service’s life.

You will benefit from a wide range of teaching and learning methods, including:
- lectures, tutorials and project work
- planning exercises, simulations, computer packages
- company and site visits
- assessment by a combination of continuous assessment, such as coursework and tests (25%) and end-of-year exams (around 75%).
Your final degree classification is determined by your performance in the second and final year.
At the end of the second year, you can choose to benefit from a paid twelve month professional placement. This Optional Sandwich Year, in relevant employment, will be arranged with the help of our placement tutor. We have excellent links with the logistics industry and can offer a wide range of opportunities spanning all aspects of the sector. The placement year can be taken in the UK or abroad and some placement allowances are available. In most cases placement students are offered graduate employment.

Both our BSc in Logistics and our BSc in Transport Management are accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT). Graduates who become Chartered Members (CMILT) are eligible to request a CPC National and International in Road Haulage. Following professional experience after graduation you will be eligible for Chartered Fellow Membership (FCILT). Your placement year is fully recognized as professional experience.

Some of our other graduates chose to join Officer Training Schemes for the Army and Royal Air Force and Aston University’s position as one of the select few UK Defence Academy (DTUS) universities makes us ideal for those wishing to pursue their careers in this area.
During the course of your studies you will be involved in several individual and group projects. These are designed to develop individual skills needed to work within the logistics and transport industry after your graduation. There is a wide range of skills involved in project work such as communication, written and verbal, organisational and management skills. Team work may teach you how to compromise as well.
You will benefit from our modern and purpose-designed teaching facilities including excellent IT facilities. All the necessary support is provided to develop your IT skills including self-tuition.
Constant Iannacci
I graduated from University of Lyon in 1992 with a D.E.S.S.(Masters) in International Trade and Management, specialising in Logistics. Following this I joined a freight forwarding company in Macon and later moved into teaching in the Burgundy area of France. My main position was as lecturer in International Trade and Logistics but I also acted as consultant for local businesses moving into and expanding their export operations. In 2001 I joined Aston University and have designed and delivered modules such as Maritime Transport, Vehicle Fleet Operations, Marketing Research, European Union Institutions and European Union Transport Policies, Supply Chain Management and recently Multimodal Transport Management.. As well as teaching I also currently hold the position of Programme Director for the Undergraduate courses in Logistics and Transport. I am also the Industrial Placement Tutor.
