Learning, teaching & assessment

We employ a wide variety of teaching and learning styles on our degrees, and we place  particular emphasis on project based learning and hands on experience. Visiting lecturers from the construction industry bring real life experience to your learning.

Assessment is through a combination of project work, case studies, practical reports and coursework (approx. 50%), and exams (approx. 50%). Your final degree classification is not only based on your final year studies, but also on your second, and if relevant, your sandwich year.

For further information, see the programme specification (PDF).

Placement year

If you choose our four year sandwich programme your third year is spent in a paid industrial placement of direct relevance to your studies. The value a placement adds is immense – you will grow in knowledge, experience, confidence and maturity, and gain organisational and time management skills.

Our experienced staff will help you find a suitable placement with companies such as Carillion, Balfour Beatty Construction, Interserve, Shepherd Construction, Mace, EC Harris and AYH.
