One of the following:

• A good UK honours degree (minimum lower second class)

• Equivalent overseas degree recognised by Aston University.

As well as:

• Two professional references – at least one must be from an academic referee

• A completed application form.

For International Students:

• An official academic transcript, with an official English translation, of your university grades to date

• Students whose native language is not English will also need to satisfy our English language requirements with one of the following:

  • A TOEFL score of at least 100 (internet-based) with a minimum score of 23 in Speaking, 22 in Reading and 21 in Writing and Listening

  • An overall IELTS score of 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and speaking and 6.0 in listening and reading)

  • A PEARSON score of 61 overall with a minimum score of 61 in writing and speaking and 53 in reading and listening

Pre-sessional English language programmes are available for good applicants whose English qualification falls just short of these requirements.

Information on visas for international students

The MSc Supply Chain Management is designed  to meet the needs of recent graduates and those already in employment who wish to acquire specialist skills and knowledge in Supply Chain Management, in order that they may embark or progress successfully on their chosen careers.

On successful completion of this programme, students are expected to have knowledge and understanding of:

• strategic decision-making/policy and practice in the context of the business environment locally, nationally and internationally
• the contribution of wider aspects of business areas, to be able to integrate Supply Chain strategy/policy and practice with business and organisational strategy
• theoretical and applied perspectives of Supply Chain Management and Logistics
• specific areas of supply chain management through the study of specialist modules. These areas include: relationships, partnering, ERP, simulation, purchasing, contracts, planning and optimisation.

This MSc requires the student to undertake 10 taught modules, together with the completion of a major project of up to 20,000 words. Each taught module involves 22 teaching hours, which may include tutorials, case studies, and guest lectures. The programme runs from October to September with examination weeks in December and March/April. The project occupies the final six months, being submitted in September.

Modules are complemented with a substantial piece of independent research leading to a 60 credit dissertation. Students are allowed to decide on the particular topic for their dissertation.

The dissertation allows students the opportunity for extended application of the knowledge and skills acquired in the taught part of the course.

Assessment methods are designed to meet the particular requirements of each module. These methods vary from 100% examination to 100% continuous assessment. Currently the balance for the taught element of the Programme is approximately 65% examination and 35% continuous assessment. The major project accounts for 60 of the 180 credits required for successful completion of the degree.

This programme is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) and the Chartered Management Institute.

Dr Louise Knight
Senior Lecturer in Management, Engineering Systems and Management Subject Group

Dr Knight joined the ESM team in late 2007 to teach strategic management and strategic purchasing. She came to Aston from the University of Bath where she was Deputy Director of the Centre for Research in Strategic Purchasing and Supply, and before that held various roles in human resource management and purchasing and supply at London Underground Ltd.  Her research interests include supply networks, network learning and leadership, collaboration and public procurement.
