Optometry Summer School

In 2011 Aston University held the first UK optometry summer school. It was a resounding success with emphasis on specialist ophthalmic techniques and specialist contact lens work. There was also the opportunity for overseas delegates to participate in English language classes. In August 2012 the programme was aimed more at optometrists who had career breaks or just wanted to polish up their regular optometric skills. In 2013 there will be chance to enrol on another optometry summer school, this time with some routine practical skills and some more specialist skills being offered. The 2013 summer school will take place in July-August 2013.

It is open to practitioners (optometrists, opticians, ophthalmologists, orthoptists, pre-reg students, ophthalmic nurses and technicians too) who wish to learn techniques that they can take into their own practice environments.

Delegates attending for full weeks are able to stay on campus accommodation and the accommodation price is included in the delegate fee for anyone staying at least a week. Some delegates will prefer to attend only one day or a combination of days and price for single days is available upon application.

Other activities

There will be social events planned in the evenings and weekends for attendees of the summer school, such as reception with the Vice Chancellor and reception with Lord Mayor. There are some additional optional events like evening meals or trip to London (at the weekend) or trip to Stratford on Avon too that may interest some delegates.
