1. Am I guaranteed a place in University accommodation?
Provided Aston is your first choice university and you apply by the deadline.
2. How do I apply for University accommodation?
You can apply by completing the on line application form
3. Am I guaranteed my preferred choice of accommodation?
No. We try to provide students with their preferred choice of accommodation, unfortunately this is not always possible.
4. When will I receive my offer of accommodation?
You will receive an offer of accommodation after you have converted to an Unconditional Firm offer with the University.
5. How long can I stay in my accommodation?
For the duration of the licence period including the Christmas and Easter vacations.
6. Is there single sex accommodation?
Whilst this cannot be guaranteed there is a limited amount of single sex accommodation available. Please indicate your flat mix preference on your application form – this cannot be guaranteed.
Please note: the University reserves the right to change single sex accommodation to mixed sex accommodation to ensure full occupancy.
7. Is there accommodation adapted for special/additional needs?
There are a number of adapted for students with special/additional needs.
8. If I have a medical condition, which may have a bearing on my allocation, will this be taken into account?
We will endeavour to take into account any medical condition relevant to living arrangements, however this cannot be guaranteed.
9. Can I view my accommodation before moving in?
Yes, by prior appointment with a member of staff currently based in Lakeside Reception. Please note that it may not be possible to show you your allocated room. In which case, you will be shown a similar one.
10. How much will it cost and when will I have to pay?

11. What is included in my rent?
All utility and cleaning charges are included.

12. What do I need to bring?
You need to bring bedding (including a pillow), towels, crockery, pots, pans, cutlery and cleaning products.
13. Is there anything I should not bring?
There are several things that are prohibited from campus. These include: heaters, personal fridges, rice cookers, candles, chip pans, oil heaters, tea lights, joss sticks, laser pens, weapons and Pets!
14. Where can I eat if I don’t want to cook?
There are a number of University outlets on campus providing a range of food catering@aston.ac.uk A New Touch Pay cashless payment system enabling you to purchase food and drinks is now in operation at onsite catering outlets.
15. Can I connect to the Internet in my room?
Internet access is provided throughout the residences (Price available on arrival).
16. What about insuring my possessions?
All students are strongly advised to take out personal belongings insurance cover.
17. Do I need a television licence?
All TV sets used in residences are required by law to be licensed
18. Can I bring a pet?
No pets may be brought into or kept in accommodation, sorry not even goldfish!
19. Can I have decorative candles in my room?
The use of lighted candles, tea-lights, aromatic oil heaters, joss sticks or any other device that has a naked flame, other than smoker’s materials, is expressly prohibited in University accommodation.
20. What alternatives are there to University accommodation?
There are landlords throughout Birmingham offering student accommodation, as well as a number of major private sector accommodation providers. 21. Is there any family accommodation available on campus?
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide family accommodation or shared rooms on campus. 22. Can I bring my car or motorcycle?
Unfortunately, we are unable to offer parking facilities to students, except those with a disability.
23. Can I bring a bicycle?
Bicycles are allowed but must be stored in the bicycle racks situated around campus and residences, not in your accommodation.
24. What about security and welfare?
There is 24-hour security and welfare provision.
25. Can I have guests to stay in my room?
Yes, for no more than two consecutive nights, subject to the Information, Conditions of Residence and Licence
26. Is there a cleaning service?
Communal areas are cleaned regularly.
27. Is there a launderette on campus?
There are launderettes for the use of all the campus residents.
28. What re-cycling arrangements are available on campus?
There are re-cycling containers available on campus for residents to use.
29. Where do I collect my mail? Letters are delivered to the Halls of Residence. If you receive a parcel, a card, informing you to collect it from Lakeside Reception, will be put into your post box.
