Inspired by the need to provide additional, modern, safe and social University managed accommodation, Aston University is undertaking an exciting new development with the construction of 2309 brand-new all en-suite study bedrooms.
Phase 1 of the new accommodation on the south-east side of the campus off Jennens Road opened in September 2010 with
1309 new rooms already available. This new student accommodation will be unrivalled in quality, environmental performance,
style and social space.
In January 2008 work began to build the new student accommodation and as part of this £215 million development saw the removal of Dalton and Lawrence towers and the low-rise accommodation in May 2011. The development should be complete by 2013 when the final remaining tower will be removed.
The 2nd phase of work involves the removal of the existing accommodation towers in the centre of campus, and the construction of two new blocks to the north-west of campus, opposite the iconic fire station and continuing the curve round onto James Watt Queensway.
The development also incorporates new sports pitches, common rooms, laundry rooms and landscaping. And the building is designed with new features such as wind turbines and storm water recycling
The accommodation has set new standards in design and security (BREEAM) enabling students to enjoy the best in city centre, on campus living, complementing the vision of one of the UK's top ranking universities.
BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance.
