Many 2nd year and some 3rd and 4th year students live off campus in privately rented housing in popular student areas. There’s a wide choice available, from shared houses in various sizes and styles, to flats or apartments in a number of areas close by the University and city centre.
These properties are usually basically furnished and we strongly suggest that you view any potential property before making a decision and coming to an agreement with the landlord.
We offer extensive support and advice in finding suitable places and our Accommodation Office holds information for larger private rentals. The Students' Guild holds lists of private sector accommodation and with the On-line Student Accommodation Service - www.astonstudentpad.co.uk provides information about all types of accommodation.

Please remember all private sector properties are neither inspected nor in any way approved. We provide an information service only, and the details we publish about properties are as received from their owners and the University accepts no liability In respect of properties listed.
If a rented property has any gas appliances in it (such as a gas central heating boiler, a gas fire, or a gas cooker) by law the landlord must have it inspected and certified every twelve months. Full time students must provide the landlord with council tax exemption certificate (available from the University Registry Department).
If you decide to live off campus, you’ll still be welcome to join in all aspects of campus life – both academic and social. Local students often choose to live at home for the duration of their degrees and still take a full part in campus life, both in social and academic terms.
