Interdisciplinary Research Poster Day - 2nd October
You are invited to attend, and to participate in, an Interdisciplinary Research Poster Day organised by our LHS Post-Doctoral Fellows. The event will be held on Friday 2 October from 11.00am - 2.30pm in room MB708. A fully catered buffet will be provided to both participants and delegates on the day.
This is another great opportunity to find out what sort of research your ECR colleagues are carrying out. For catering purposes please contact Eric Hill
to confirm your attendance.
£1,000 grant prize
We are pleased to offer a ‘Seed Corn’ grant of £1000 as a prize for the best collaborative proposal arising from the event. After the event potential collaborators will be invited to submit a short grant proposal (which must include at least one Aston LHS researcher) which will be reviewed by an invited panel of academics at the University.
There will also be prizes of £100 (1st), £50 (2nd) and £25 (3rd) for the best posters displayed on the day as judged by a panel of Academics/Researchers. This competition is open to all researchers from all universities.
Postdoctoral research fellows who would like to display a poster of their research should send a short 300 word abstract to Eric Hill (posters from recent conferences are also welcome)* - the organisers would be happy to receive posters from our early career academics. Alternatively you are more than welcome to just come along to have a look at some of the research work going on in LHS and chat with some of our researchers. The deadline for submission of abstracts will be 14th August.
The event is being sponsored by Fisher scientific, Thermo Liquid Handling, Appleton woods, Promega, MBI Fermentas, SFAM, Beckman Coulter, Merck, Elkay, Alta Biosciences, Geneflow and NEB, all of whom will be available on the day to discuss all of your laboratory needs as well as offering special promotions and competitions.
* LHS postdocs are reminded that external visitors are not subject to the same confidentiality agreements as Aston University staff and posters may need to be changed accordingly
The ECAR Forum was officially launched on 17th June by Professor Graham Hooley, Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
The launch was combined with a Poster and Networking event which took place over a buffet lunch, 60 people attended and the Associate Deans of Research, Professor Jim Love, Professor Helen Griffiths, Professor David Lowe and Professor Malcolm Coulthard with Professor Hooley judged the posters.
Congratulations to the prize winners who will receive a financial contribution to their PASA accounts, kindly donated by our 4 Executive Deans.
The prize winners and their posters:
There were no poster submissions under the theme of an ever-changing, diverse, society.
Debbie Evans (ECAR Co-Ordinator) initiated and organised the event with the wonderful support from Wendy Overton, Susan Doughty and Margarita Seresht and thanks were given to them all for their hard work and commitment to achieve a robust and collegiate early career researcher community at Aston. Feedback has been extremely positive and further events will be planned to ensure that ECAR becomes embedded into Aston’s research culture.
