Background
The Forum was established in 1995 and is chaired by the Secretary-Registrar. The Forum is concerned with Equality and Diversity in employment. It approves the Equal Opportunities Action Plan on an annual basis and monitors progress. It also approves new policies and procedures in accordance with new legislation and good practice guidelines.
TERMS OF REFERENCE

To consider and make recommendations to Culture and Welfare Committee on all matters relating to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Equality and Diversity Policy.

To assist in the preparation of an annual report to the Senate and University Council.

To ensure the University is meeting statutory requirements in relation to equal opportunities.

To approve the annual equal opportunities action plan and to identify the key priority areas of the plan.

To monitor the implementation and progress of the equal opportunities action plan.

To ensure that the University meets its positive duties to promote equality in relation to race, disability and gender

To receive and monitor Equality Impact Assessments in accordance with the University’s Schedule

Following the examination and review of procedures to discuss, develop and promote requirements for change.

To discuss and develop appropriate awareness and training requirements.

To identify and maintain appropriate consultation and communication routes, both internal and external

To establish and maintain appropriate project groups to examine and report on specific equal opportunities issues.
MEMBERSHIP
1. The following shall be ex-officio members of the Forum:
Chief Operating Officer
Director of Human Resources
Head of Student Services
Academic Registrar
Equal Opportunities Adviser
Disability Co-ordinator
2. Other members shall be:
One representative from each School of Study appointed by the Head of School for three years.
Four representatives from the Support Service Departments appointed for three years.
Three representatives from the trade unions to be appointed by the JUCC for three years.
Two representatives from the Students’ Guild
One representative from the Harassment Advisers Group
Co-opted Members as required with particular expertise in specific equalities issues
