Applicants needed trial a Mitsubishi i MiEV, a smart fortwo electric drive or a Tata Indica Vista EV

Are you interested in reducing your carbon footprint without losing your flexibility?

In a co-ordinated move towards low carbon transport, Coventry University is seeking potential drivers for a one year trial to test an exclusive range of alternative fuelled cars and provide vital feedback in evaluating their viability for day-to-day use.

A trial of 110 alternatively fuelled cars operating within the Coventry and Birmingham area will be run by West Midlands consortium CABLED (Coventry and Birmingham Low Emission Demonstrators).

Six vehicle manufacturers - Jaguar Land Rover, Mitsubishi, smart, Tata Motors, LTI and Microcab Industries - are contributing vehicles, which include a mix of fully electric, plug-in hybrid and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, available for a minimum 12 month lease.

The trial will start from November 2009, depending on vehicle type, and charging infrastructure will be installed in Birmingham and Coventry by E.ON to support the trial.

They are looking for applicants to trial a Mitsubishi i MiEV, a smart fortwo electric drive or a Tata Indica Vista EV who meet the following criteria:

• Live or work within the West Midlands region
• Will agree to take part in user surveys and trials
• Will agree to collection of usage and charging data including GPS tracking (GPS data will be held confidentially)
• Have dedicated off-street parking or a garage at their domestic residence

If you are interested in participating in this exciting project, please email lowcarbonvehicles.bes@coventry.ac.uk. The trial’s prospectus and formal expression of interest form will then be sent to you. Alternatively you can call 024 7679 5788.
