Birmingham iPhone app a hit with students

app

A new iPhone application has been launched to help Birmingham students get the most out of their time in the city.

The app, called 'Birmingham: A Student and Graduate Guide', features everything from money-saving days out to top shopping venues and places to eat and drink. The Lonely Planet guide, features tips and reviews from students at Aston University and other city-based universities and colleges.

Emma Gray, spokeswoman for website www.visitbirmingham.com, which was set up to promote the city and is backing the app, said; “By working with Lonely Planet to produce an iPhone app, we have been able to bring the city’s vibrant offering to life through an interactive platform that provides insider knowledge from the students and graduates themselves.”

She said she hoped the guide, written by Lonely Planet author Belinda Dixon, would encourage students to stay in the city once they graduate. “It’s important that we retain our talent within the city and local workforce by show-casing Birmingham as a place to live and work long-term to our students and graduates,” she said.

The app follows on from the guide book ‘Birmingham: your life starts here’ launched by Visitbirmingham.com and Lonely Planet last year.
