Sport Aston has recently introduced Sports Scholarships which are designed to attract talented sportspeople, who are also academically bright, to study at Aston. The successful students then represent the University in an Athletic Union team.
This academic year Sport Aston has awarded 3 Sport Scholarships.
Samantha Taylor is studying for a Combined Honours degree in Psychology and Business. She is the English National Taekwon-Do Sparring Champion 2008 and was a member of the England squad at the European Championships. Just recently Samantha took the national university Taekwon-Do championships by storm - winning four events in her category and helping the University to win the coveted 'University Shield' for best overall points score of all the universities taking part.
Antony Pritchard is studying for a BSc in Management and Strategy and is a member of the Aston 1st XI Football Team. A promising young player, Antony played for QPR until a knee injury cruelly kept him out of action for 18 months. Recent accolades include helping his side win the League Cup and Men's London Cup in the Allied Sunday League.
Samuel Lynch is studying for a graduate diploma in Psychology. A key member of the Aston Men's Basketball Team, the talented Point Guard has been playing regularly at National League level for Wolverhampton as well as representing the Birmingham Bullets under 20's side.
Scholarships can be used to help towardsappropriate activities such as gym membership, sports equipment, physiotherapy, specialist coaching or travelling to training and/or competitions. The introduction of scholarships also helps to improve the standards of the sports teams – particularly those competing in the BUCS leagues – by bringing in high calibre sports students.
