Sport Aston will be running a brand new course in the new academic term: Barre Central. As this is a brand new course for Aston, staff are invited to attend a free taster session on Monday 15 August at 12pm or 1pm in the Gem Sports Centre Aerobics Studio. Spaces are limited to 20 people per session so please book now to avoid disappointment! Simply call ext 4626 to book your place.
The class is suitable for all fitness levels and no prior experience is necessary. Barre Central classes are derived from the pioneering Lotte Berk Method® which was developed by the German ballet dancer Lotte Berk. After injuring her back, Lotte, together with her osteopath, designed the movements to aid in her own rehabilitation and created a system of highly effective body conditioning exercises designed to develop the strong, long, lean, flexible muscles of a dancer. The exercises involve no jumping, jarring or damaging movements, while efficiently burning fat and increasing stamina.
The method takes the most effective dance training moves and strips them down to the base mechanics of the movement. It has been described as "ballet on steroids." The movements require such focus that you also obtain the mental benefits achieved in practices such as yoga or meditation. The method uses a ballet barre, body weight resistance, and light free weights. There is no upper or lower age limit, the class is suitable for all fitness levels and there is no choreography so those with no dance experience whatsoever can attend a class.
Barre Central is quite simply, an exhilarating total body workout that conditions your body in record-breaking time. Utilising the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements set to fantastic music, it is the fastest, most effective, yet safest way to change your body.
