The University regrets to announce the death of Sir Timothy Harford. Sir Timothy served as University Treasurer and chaired the Finance Committee from 1988 to 2002. He also chaired the Aston University Pension Scheme Trustees. Throughout the 1990s and into the early years of this last decade, Sir Timothy worked with and supported two Vice-Chancellors at Aston, Prof Sir Frederick Crawford until his retirement in 1996, and then Prof Michael Wright.
David Packham, the University’s former Secretary-Registrar, worked closely with Sir Timothy during his period as Treasurer and he shares his memories: ‘Sir Timothy was financially very astute, and had a background of business experience at the highest level. As University Treasurer, his stewardship of the University's finances was never less than careful and considered. He was Treasurer when the Lakeside Halls of Residence project was initiated, and his financial experience and advice were invaluable in the successful delivery of the project. It was a great privilege for me to work with Sir Timothy, and to learn from him and benefit from his advice. It was also a very great pleasure to have known him, for he was a gentleman in every sense of the word - chivalrous, courteous, and considerate.’
A private family burial has already taken place. There is to be a Service of Thanksgiving at 2pm on Thursday 23 September at All Saints Church in Evesham, Worcestershire.
