Sport Aston is currently organising 'Aston Olympians 2009', a multi-activity sports event for local primary school children on 9th and 10th June.
This is the third year running that the University has held this event. This year the event will run over two days with all eight primary schools in the Aston Pride area attending (four on each day). 30 children aged 9-10 in five teams from each school will take part in events such as Benchball, Football, Mini-Water Polo, a Gym Challenge and Speed and Agility exercises.
We need volunteers from both staff and students to help us run the event. No previous experience of the activities is needed as Sport Aston will be providing qualified staff for all activities. Briefings will also be held the week before the event on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd June.
Needed:
20 x Team Supervisors for each day
Each Team Supervisor will be allocated to a team of six children and will look after them throughout the day (under the overall control of two accompanying teachers from each school). The major responsibilities will be collecting the children from the coach as they arrive and ensuring that the team gets to each activity safely and on time and back to the coach at the end of the day and of course providing encouragement and support to the children during their activities.
10 x Activities Assistants
The Activities Assistants will provide help to Sports department staff at the activities and duties could include scoring, judging or stewarding.
The commitment for the day would be from 8.45am to 2.30pm. We really cannot run this event without your help so please volunteer if you can as this is a wonderful opportunity to provide children, who may not have extensive sports facilities at their schools, with a day to remember.
The event is being supported by Aston Pride, the Titan Partnership and the University's Catering Department.
Anyone wishing to volunteer should contact Mike Kirkman on ext 4624. Please specify which day you can help on.
