The Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) at Aston University is a member of RCE (Severn) which is a regional centre for sustainability education and one of 66 United Nations University recognised centres for Education for Sustainable Development. Dr John Blewitt, Director of the Lifelong Learning Centre, is Vice Chair of the RCE (Severn) Steering Committee and leads the working group on Media and Culture.
A RCE is a network of formal, non-formal and informal education organisations, mobilised to deliver education for sustainable development to local and regional communities. Each centre aspires to achieve the goals of the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD, 2005-2014), by translating its global objectives into the context of the local communities in which they operate.
Abhishek Boyanpalli recently joined the LLC as a graduate intern and is presently undertaking a range of activities to promote sustainability within the Media/Culture sectors within the region.
Abhishek studied for an ABS MBA with majors in International Business and International Marketing. In addition he has presented, advised and coached associates on process and communication related topics. He took part in the Go Green initiative when working at Dell Computers. Being a Go Green volunteer meant that he took part in various pro-sustainability initiatives and also visited schools and colleges to spread the benefits of eco friendliness.
R&D seminars, CPD learning events, an interactive web facility and other activities and resources are soon to follow - watch this space!
