World Varsities Trout Fly Fishing Competition

28 - 29 August 2010
Cong, Co Mayo, Ireland

The inaugural Lough Corrib World Varsities Trout Fly Fishing Competition will be held on Lough Corrib, Ireland on the 28 and 29 August.

The impetus for this competition is the committee’s keen interest in game angling and to build links with colleges/universities and like minded individuals. In the interests of conservation, the competition will be run on a ‘catch and release’ basis. This is a non-profit making event and a non-commercial venture.

A team consists of 2 anglers comprising of a member of staff, a current student or an alumni. Fly-fishing from a drifting boat will be the method of choice for this competition. All fly-fishing techniques are permissible including wet fly, dry fly and dapping.

The cost of the competition is 250 euro per person for 2 nights and 290 euro per person for 3 nights. The price covers Bed and Breakfast for 2 or 3 nights, packed lunch, dinner, boat and local fishing guide (or gillie) for 2 days. Entrants are allowed source sponsorship to lower the costs involved in coming to this competition.

The committee would like to extend an invitation to Aston University to enter a team. Please note that places are limited and will be granted on a first come first served basis. To enter a team please contact either of the two organisers at the contact details below by the 5 March 2010 to secure your place.
