Tuesday 4 February - Inaugural Lecture: Professor David Webb, School of Engineering and Applied Science
Sumpner Lecture Theatre, 6pm
This lecture ‘Making light work’ will showcase how research in the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies is pushing the boundaries of optical sensing technologies. This includes enabling measurements to be made in previously inaccessible environments, ranging from the bottom of an oil well to the inside of a tumour. Book your free place More information.

To coincide with the opening of the Marie Curie Work Programme, Paul Knobbs will be delivering a briefing session. This will cover the Marie Curie Innovative Training Network scheme (ITN) and the Research and Innovation Staff Exchange Scheme (RISE). These schemes will open immediately, and close in March 2014. Wednesday 29 January - CPD Workshop: Teaching Grammar through Reading at Key Stage 2
CLERA will be running a CPD workshop led byDr Urszula Clark aimed at Teachers of Key Stage 2 and Primary Literacy Coordinators. This workshop through practical, group based exercises focuses on how to teach pupils the ways in which verbs or processes represent experiences in fiction and contribute to the representation of character.
