So far this year the Student Switch Off campaign has seen an average reduction of 12.01% in electricity use in halls of residence at the University, saving an amazing 85 tons of CO2 from being emitted. This has saved the C02 equivalent of 948 return flights from Manchester to London or making 5 million cups of tea!
Over 200 student 'Eco-Power Rangers' have signed up and have been promoting this campaign throughout their halls, winning prizes such as free ice-cream, cinema tickets and water-powered alarm clocks. This shows how much can be achieved when everyone takes those little steps to being more energy efficient.
Today is the deadline of our Aston Go Green Awards, so we’ll be able to see whether our staff have been as successful as our students. It’s great to see so many people getting involved around the University, helping us on our way to achieve our 10% saving as part of the national 10:10 campaign.
More information and to see how you can get involved.
