To celebrate the first year of the Aston Go Green Awards, staff eco-champions were invited to a celebratory lunch last month.
The University's Vice-Chancellor, Julia King presented the awards to the winning teams. The lucky winners were the LSS Support Office, who not only bagged the Gold Award but also won the Innovation Award for all the great ideas and initiatives that they had put in place in their office. Silver awards went to CLIPP and to HR. Bronze awards went to both Staff Development and the ABS Research Degrees Programme. The lunch, provided by University catering, was a meat-free, locally sourced menu and certainly proved very popular, as did the Fairtrade wine that was served!
We would like, once again, to congratulate and thank all of our champions and all the staff across Aston who got involved to help make the university a greener place to be and work. The importance of staff and student involvement cannot be overestimated, and the enthusiasm of our staff was recognised in this years People&Planet Green League where Aston, ranked in 5th place, was awarded full marks for staff and student engagement.
We will be organising some feedback sessions in the coming weeks so that we can ensure next year's Go Green Awards are even bigger and better so if you are interested keep an eye out for more information. We’ll also be sending round some top tips, as suggested by our champions in the Innovation section of the workbook; we hope you’ll all be able to take these suggestions on board in your own teams and get a head start on next year!
