The University regrets to announce the death of Dr Philip Lowe who peacefully passed away on the 31st October 2012 at his home in Northfield, Birmingham.
Philip started as a Junior Laboratory Technician in Pharmacy when he was 18 years of age in 1966 and left in 1968 to work with Limmer and Trinidad as a Laboratory Technical Supervisor. In mid 1970 he returned to Aston as a Junior Technician in the department of Pharmacy; he then moved to Senior Technician and onto Laboratory Technician in 1976 when he completed his Bachelor of Arts Degree(s).
Philip went on to hold the position of Laboratory Superintendent from 1979 when he started work towards his Phd in Crystallography; this was completed in 1984 and received his doctorate status in 1985. Phil then went on to be Departmental Superintendent for Pharmaceutical & Biological Sciences; he retired in 1999 and became a visiting research fellow in Crystallography until 2002.
Amongst his work at Aston he actively contributed to other university activities as president of the senior common room, a member of the health & safety committee and chairman of charter ball committee in 1994, 1995 & 1997.
Phil is survived by his widow Jean and his sons Adrian and Scott. He will be much missed by his many friends and colleagues.
Philips funeral will take place on the 12th November at Lodge Hill Crematorium, Selly Oak, Birmingham at 2.30pm. Flowers or donations to cancer research are welcome.
