2012 will see the launch of Expanding Horizons: Aston’s Year of Transforming Lives. More information about this exciting year will be following very soon. However we are pleased to announce the commencement of our first Expanding Horizons activity – the launch of Aston University Running Club.
Initially aimed at complete beginners, the running club will meet every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime outside the Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centreor Main Building and follow some local routes – predominantly around the canals. However we will be offering led runs for the intermediate runner so too so please do contact us to let us know if you want to take part.
The first run will take place on Tuesday 10 January at 13:15 – meet outside the Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centre.Aston University Running Club runners will receive access to the showers in the lower foyer of the main building in case you were wondering about freshening up after the run!
We have 3 trained run leaders who will guide and help you along the way and we will work through our programme so that you should be able to run 5k after 9 weeks! During Aston’s year of Expanding Horizons you will have the chance to set your own personal goals and receive help, support and encouragement to reach them and Aston University Running Club want to work with you to achieving your goals. We think we can get complete beginners who have perhaps never ran before at a level strong enough to complete the Birmingham Half Marathon in October but we can also work with you towards a 5 or 10k goal.
For the beginners the first session will be this:
5 minute brisk walk warm up
60 seconds running
90 seconds walking
Repeat for 20-25 minutes.
We will have a slightly different plan for intermediates or those who already run –please just let us know your level. So if you have perhaps over-indulged a little over the Christmas break and want to make this the year that you lead a more healthy and active lifestyle you would be most welcome to join us.
We hope you will join us on Tuesday and for any more information or to let us know if you would like to attend please contact Jen Lines or Simon Foster.
