Entry for International students joining Aston University is set to become much easier with the introduction of dedicated Pre-entry Advisers located within The Hub. The team will work with International students and staff members before they arrive at Aston to offer help and advice to ensure that the entry process s as smooth as possible.
One of the key services to be offered by the team is support with visa issues. Delays with visas are often a problem for International students, which can result in them being unable to start their course on time and prevent them from getting settled into University life. The advisers have specialist knowledge regarding current visa requirements and will check applications and documents for students before their application is made.
The team will also be helping students to get to grips with the social aspects of life at University. This will include offering an improved ‘Meet and Greet’ service at Birmingham Airport and organising International Orientation week as part of Aston Welcome 2012‘, a series of orientation events aimed at helping students to settle in to their new surroundings.
The advisers will be available to meet with students via Skype, which will allow students the opportunity to ask any questions or address any concerns in an informal way. It will also mean that students will get to know a friendly face at the University before they arrive.
The breadth and quality of the service offered exceeds that at many other UK Universities and will ensure that our incoming International students feel supported and looked after long before they arrive on campus for their first lectures.
There will be a short presentation on Monday 30 January (3pm in G8) for any staff who would like to find out more about the new team and the services they provide.
