Michele Robins and Beverley Ward, two members of Sport Aston staff, have recently enhanced their academic qualifications. They have both now decided to continue with their studies and will top up their qualifications to degree level in the next year.
Facilities Operations Manager, Michele Robins graduated from Loughborough College with a Distinction in the Higher Professional Diploma in Sport and Recreation Management last week. This qualification is the gold star award of the industry’s leading professional body, The Institute of Sport and Recreation Management. Michele will be continuing with her studies at Loughborough this year to top up her qualification to a BA (Honours) in Leisure Management.
This news came hot on the heels of another success story as it followed Beverley Ward’s (Finance and Administration Manager) successful completion (with a Merit award) of the Foundation Degree in Management and Administration in Higher and Further Education, run jointly by Aston University and Birmingham Metropolitan College. Beverley will also be continuing her studies next year as she will be transferring in to the BSc (Honours) Business Administration programme delivered by Aston Business School.
Director of Campus Services, Mike Kirkman commented, “Michele and Beverley should be very proud of their achievements. Anyone who has undertaken a course of study whilst holding down a full-time job will know that this is the most difficult way to achieve a qualification. Both these members of staff have very demanding jobs and they are a shining example for other members of staff to follow.
"Their success is yet another example of the commitment to continuing professional development culture that exists within Sport Aston and the University as a whole. Over the past two years every member of the campus sports team has either added to their professional qualifications or undertaken an additional role over and above their designated job. Witnessing staff progressing in this way in order to reach their full potential is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work here at Aston.”
