John Blewitt, Director of the Lifelong Learning Centre, has developed a new 20 credit level 7 module on the use of new media in blended and distance learning.
It has been validated by the IDS Learning and Teaching Committee and is now ready for its first run out which John would like to be a pilot before he refines and develops it further for external delivery. The module consists of 10 units including:
- New Media Ecology and Mediated Learning
- Technology Enhanced Learning
- Multiple Intelligences and Technological Affordances
- Learning Objects and Learning Outcomes
- Serious Games
- Virtual Worlds and Simulations
- Consolidation and Review
- Interaction, Participation and Engagement
- Assessment and Evaluation
- From Literacy to Electracy
Delivery will be on a blended learning basis involving materials and activities available through Blackboard, online tutorials and by five face to face seminar discussions. The assessment is based on the production of a portfolio of on-line learning objects, learning activities, and other learning material relevant for use in an actual UG or PG module.
As this is the first iteration of the module the Centre for Staff and Graduate Development is funding six places for University staff. The exact start date has yet to be fixed but will be in the middle of November.
