The International Office held its annual International Scholarships Reception and certificate presentation ceremony at Lakeside on 26 January, celebrating the achievements of international scholars studying at Aston on scholarships. In addition to the various scholarships offered by the University, we have recipients of awards from the Commonwealth Scholarships Commission, Allan & Nesta Ferguson Scholarship, as well as scholarships awarded by the governments of Brunei, Malaysia, Mauritius, and Saudi Arabia.
The lunchtime reception was attended by a record number of students - over 80 students from 38 countries. They were joined by University staff, including the Vice-Chancellor Prof Julia King and Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Helen Higson who delighted the scholars in presenting their certificates and posing for both group and individual photos!
The event raises awareness of the various contributions of international scholars to Aston University’s community and the important role played by international scholarships in facilitating study opportunities.
The receptions provided the scholars with an opportunity to network and share their experiences with other scholars from across the University and from different countries – as well as their own.
Prof Helen Higson commented “Our international students are one of the key success stories for Aston. They bring so much vitality to the University with their intellectual and cultural experiences and really help to shape Aston’s international community.”
Wendy Yip, Head of International Office, said “This reception is a wonderful way for us to celebrate their achievements and also for the students themselves to see what a fantastic contribution they make to our campus and share with us their enthusiasm and aspirations for the future.”
Congratulations to all our 2010 scholarship students!
