Engineering solutions for tomorrow

Wind turbines - energy

Research in the School of Engineering & Applied Science is at the forefront of new and exciting developments which are in key demand for society’s future needs, such as sustainability, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, massive communications, and assistive technologies for biomedicine.

The key questions we are addressing include:

  • How do we engineer superior communications and sensing technologies?

  • How can we exploit and engineer the physics and chemistry of materials in biotechnology and nanotechnology?

  • How can we create a more sustainable future by engineering biosciences?

  • How can we improve biomedical and healthcare systems and technologies, particularly in the light of an aging population?

  • How can we use new mathematics and computing ideas to understand, model and control huge nonlinear complex systems?
