Policy on Tuition Fees for Staff

Council has agreed the following recommendations:

i) The establishment of a fund of £20,000 per annum, to be ring-fenced, for the purpose of paying the premium fee element of staff who wish to study the MBA (and other programmes with premium fees).

ii) That the fund should be administered by the Centre for Staff and Academic Practice Development on a first-come-first-served basis.

iii) That all Schools providing courses to staff candidates should waive the basic fee in respect of those staff candidates.

iv) That it is for the manager of the staff member involved to determine (and resolve) any potential conflict of interest, although where a School makes informal requests for alternative servicing of committees (for example), these should be considered.

The Senior Management Group has agreed that

Where the standard tuition fees are waived for a member of staff, the University Student MIS should record the expected fee as zero (ie no fee will be charged to the member of staff or his/her department), but in such a way as to allow Registry and Finance staff to continue to identify and report on the levels of staff enrolments.

NB Teaching Company Associates and Research Assistants will be treated as member of staff of the University for the purposes of this policy.
