Parents' Higher Education Advice Evening
We are conscious that knowledge and awareness of Higher Education issues such as admissions and finance are important, not only for those applying to University but also to their parents and family, particularly if they have little or no experience of Higher Education themselves.
We are conscious that knowledge and awareness of Higher Education issues such as admissions and finance are important, not only for those applying to University but also to their parents and family, particularly if they have little or no experience of Higher Education themselves.
With this in mind, for the past 8 years, Aston University have put together an evening for parents on the University campus, covering general HE issues to complement the already extensive support and advice given to parents by schools and colleges.
The 2010 event took place in June and attracted over 200 parents and students to the campus.
A brief programme from the 2010 event is outlined below:
6.15pm Welcome & Introduction
· The benefits of HE - Employment opportunities after graduation;
· Choosing a course;
· How your son/daughter applies to University – making the most of their application;
· Student Finance at University/College – what support is available, funding, budgeting etc
8.15 – 8.45pm Optional Workshops – About Aston University and Student Life and/or a tour of the Aston University Campus
Although this event is intended for parents/guardians, students are more than welcome to attend.
The date for the 2011 event will be announced in January 2011 and booking will be made available from February 2011.
If you have any queries regarding this event for parents, please do not hesitate to contact Amandip Bisel on: (0121) 204 4750 or via email at a.bisel@aston.ac.uk
Members of Aston University Schools and Colleges Liaison staff also attend parents evenings to speak on HE related issues such as UCAS, Finance, Why go to University etc.
