What's on during Aston Welcome

Welcome Week Aston Got Talent

Freshers' Week is packed with activities, events, tours, talks and nights out - it's a great introduction to your life at Aston!

There's a lot going to, so to make things easier, you can log in to MAP, Aston's online portal to see your personal Freshers' Week timetable. You will find the International Orientation Week timetable here and the Freshers' Week timetable here.

Details of some of the events that will take place are listed below. Please remember that enrolment and all School Activities are compulsory! We try to run social events more than once so you have the opportunity to take part if you miss something the first time.

Enrolment is the most important event in Freshers' Week as it formally makes you as an Aston student!

Visit the enrolment section of the website to find out more about the enrolment process and read our enrolment guide

Meet the academic staff in your School of Study, find out about your course, meet your coursemates and meet the support staff who can help you with your studies.

Please note that activities arranged by your School of Study are compulsory.

Look out for the Academic Arrival Guides, second and final year students who will help you settle in academically.

The Vice Chancellor and President of the Students’ Guild will welcome you to the University.

Your official welcome to the University from our Vice Chancellor Julia King and President of the Students' Guild Max Pullen. This is the perfect opportunity to find out more about what Aston has to offer and meet these two key people within the University.

Take part in some sports taster sessions, and discover how you can join some of the many sports teams that Aston University has to offer.

Sports Clubs Taster Sessions will take place at various times during Freshers’ Week. As well as the usual sports like football, rugby, hockey, netball and basketball, there will be the opportunity to try other activities such as ultimate Frisbee, kayaking and a range of martial arts and water sports.

Exact times and locations for the Taster Sessions will be confirmed nearer the time, but please do visit the Student Activities office on the first floor of the Students Guild or talk to an SA Auntie (the ones with the pink t-shirts) during Fresher’s Week for more information  - you'll see them all over campus!

Sports

If you are living off Campus and would like to meet other students in the same situation, come along to this event!

You will get the opportunity to meet other students who may live in the same area or building as you, which may mean you can commute in together for lectures and/or Guild evening events. There will be free food and drink available and the event will take place in the Martin Luther King (MLK) multi-faithe centre (opposite the library).

AW 2011

If you are coming to Aston as a mature student, please come along to our event to meet the other mature students.

The event is run by our Learner Enhancement Team and it is a great opportunity to meet over an informal lunch! As a mature student, you are welcome to come along and ask current students and the Learner Enhancement Team any questions you may have about life here at Aston!

You are automatically a member of the Aston Students’ Guild (our name for our students’ union) unless you choose to opt out of membership.

The Guild building is connected to the Main Building on campus by a footbridge. The Guild is run by a small team of students who are voted into office every year. They will represent your views and provide you with extra facilities to make the most of your time at Aston.

 Welcome Activities

During the evenings, Aston Students’ Guild offer a wide range of activities, such as film nights, food events, karaoke sessions and comedy nights which are great for socialising. You will be able to meet new friends in an enjoyable and informal setting. More information about Guild activities is available on the following website:
