Copyright declaration for users of electronic services at Aston University

 

This copyright declaration covers use of databases, e-journals and other electronic services provided via the Library & Information Services (LIS) at Aston University.

All electronic services are for use only by Aston University staff and students and use is subject to the acceptance of the following conditions of use.  By accepting the terms and conditions on MAP during enrolment you are also agreeing to the conditions of use below:-

Conditions of Use:

  1. The conditions below apply generally to most electronic services.  However, specific electronic services may have more stringent regulations. If you are in any doubt whatsoever as to the use you can make of a particular service, please contact Enquiries on ground floor of the Library, or telephone 0121 204 4525, or you may email library@aston.ac.uk

  2. The data is protected by copyright and made available on the understanding that its use is subject to the licence agreements made between the host services and suppliers and Aston University. The use of illegal software can have very serious financial consequences for the University.

  3. You may not remove or tamper with any copyright notice e.g. © Aston University, on any data printed or downloaded from an electronic service.

  4. Use of electronic services is permitted for: teaching, research, personal educational development, administration and management of the business of Aston University.

  5. The data may not be copied except that you may print or download, within limits, full or partial results of searches.  No further or multiple copies may be made.

  6. Use, including downloading, printing and copying, must be for private study or research purposes only. Use excludes consultancy or services where these databases are commercially exploited: e.g. work of significant benefit to the employer(s) of students on industrial placement or part-time courses.The data retrieved from these services may not be used for commercial resale or stored for subsequent access in a networking mode.

  7. Users must comply with the provisions of any current United Kingdom laws, including laws relating to copyright, misuse of computers, and Data Protection.

  8. Those who have been duly authorised to access data must respect the strict confidentiality, integrity and security of all data.

Please note: The password you will be given is for access to University Systems and for accessing various web-based electronic services. It should not be used by anyone apart from the person to whom it has been issued. Please make sure you keep it safe for future use.
