New MAP task - Statistics of MAP To-Do list and Placement messages

Today we have released a new MAP task that allows you to view statistics on MAP To-Do List messages and Placement messages.
The new task is called 'View MAP To-Do List/Placement message statistics' and can be found in the 'General Students: Actions' container on the Staff Homepage.
If you have sent any MAP To-Do List messages or MAP Placement page messages then please take a look at this task. Using it will show you how many students have read the message (or not read the message), and will allow you to see a list of the students on the different message statuses (Read, Un-read, etc).
We will be looking to enhance this task soon, by allowing you to send a reminder message/email to students who have not read their MAP To-Do List/MAP Placement messages. We will inform you when this is updated.
Please send us any feedback on this task by using this email address: mapstaffsupport@aston.ac.uk.

New Placements Page

A new Placements page for students is now available in MAP. This is a new University initiative and the aim of this Placement page is for students to manage all placement activities through one central location of My Aston Portal (MAP). This new MAP initiative will be a phased approach and the first phase will provide two things: (1) enable the University to communicate placement information and messages to students via MAP on a separate Placement page, (2) Provide a selection of links on the Placement page in MAP to other web pages e.g PNet, School Placement web pages and other useful links. The first phase is now live.

The Research Engagement task is now live. All research students are able to record their activities in MAP and submit these to their supervisor. The main supervisor is automatically emailed and is requested to login to MAP to either approve, not approve or record a pending decision on the individual activities. International students have been advised that it is particularly important that they do not delay the submission of their activities because it will provide evidence that they are engaging with their research at the University. Reports on activities are also available to both students and supervisors.

Online Student Module Selection

Working with Aston Business School, ISA has just completed an Online Module Selection pilot using MAP, allowing first year students on all Aston Business School Undergraduate Single Honours programmes to select and confirm their optional modules online for the forthcoming 2009/10 academic year.
For students on certain degree programmes, their module choices depend on the selection of two subject 'streams' and the ability to do this through MAP has also been provided before students enter the Online Module Selection screens.

Online Module Selection on MAP directly interacts with SITS to automatically create and update the module taking records for the optional and compulsory modules a student is taking. As optional module choices do not now need to be added to SITS manually, administrative staff in the Business School have reclaimed a substantial amount of time to devote to other tasks.
Due to the ease of which students can select modules online and the amount of preparatory work done by staff in the Business School, student engagement with Online Module Selection has been high. Up until today, the response rate across different degree programmes has been between 68% at its lowest and up to 94%. Overall, we have achieved a response rate of 87% for students that have optional modules that they need to select.
For more information on this process, please contact ISA at mapstaffsupport@aston.ac.uk

A new reporting facility has become available in MAP for Staff, beneath the Module Lookup container, which will enable users to view students for a Degree Programme or from a specific subject area in Combined Honours.
