Aston for me is a brilliant university. I started out studying French and then learned quickly through studying the Translation modules, that Translation is what I loved. Aston let me change to French and Translation so easily and it is such a brilliant course.
You have support from your lecturers every step of the way and they answer your questions by email so quickly: You become friends with your lecturers: the French department is so close-knit. There is no doubt that the lecturers at Aston are the best in their field and it is really shown through their teaching and lessons.
I found moving to Birmingham very daunting as I only come from a small village, but I couldn't think of a better city to live in. It has everything you could want and need, and is lovely to just walk around and see all of the sights, and the locals are very friendly and helpful.
I spent my Year Abroad in Quebec, Canada and it was the best opportunity I probably ever could have been given. From visiting Toronto, New York, Quebec City, Mont Tremblant, Montreal and Ottawa, to trying new things like dog sledding, ice skating, tubing, skiing and snow mobiling and trying local delicacies such as moose and deer! I gained so much confidence in speaking French and met so many people who I will stay in touch with for the rest of my life. I gained so much independence and came back with a whole new perspective on life. It was an absolutely unforgettable experience.
When I graduate in 2013, I am going to be working as an Assistant Director at Explore Learning. I will be half running the center in terms of marketing and financing the center and half tutoring maths and english to 5-14 year olds, which is exciting!
