Programme of Study: English Language
Year: Second
Right from my very first experience of Aston, I could instantly see myself living and studying here. The vibrant, friendly and buzzing atmosphere on campus is something you just don’t get at other universities. You are made welcome right from the start, from the famous ‘Aston Aunties’ that move you in to the amazing array of new friends that you will make.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my course so far, the lecturers are more than willing to go out their way to provide help and support. They are all extremely intelligent and inspiring people, who have continued to nurture my passion for English. Classes are small, and so you really get to know your course mates and tutors on a personal level too. Aside from this, there is loads of support for students in general, whether it is careers advice, help with placements or volunteering opportunities.
The placement year is another unique element to Aston. Even for Social Science courses like mine, the option is there for taking a year out to gain some invaluable work experience. It is a chance to put theories into practice and experience real working life, something which is very attractive to potential employers. I’m hoping to work in either a PR or marketing role for my placement next year, something which I believe will enhance my career prospects immensely.
Birmingham as student city is amazing! As well as the guild nightlife, there is a vast range of clubs, bars, pubs and restaurants, so you’ll be sure to find something you like and all within walking distance. The city is beautifully multicultural and is always buzzing with atmosphere, with events such as the international food market and the famous German Christmas market happening throughout the year.
Clichés aside, I can honestly say I have made life long friends here during, probably, the best two years of my life. Aston University is without a doubt an inspiring place to study and thrive in student life!
