Translation Studies

The members of our group teach on our Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes in Translation Studies and supervise doctoral research students.

We are closely integrated with the French, German and Spanish subject groups, jointly forming the Languages and Translation Studies Forum. We also work closely with our colleagues from English and Politics and International Relations, especially in delivering postgraduate programmes.

• We developed the first Undergraduate translation programmes in England

• Our outstanding reputation for teaching quality was confirmed when we achieved a score of 22 out of a possible 24 for Teaching Quality in Modern Languages

• Our Masters in Translation in a European Context is one of only 34 programmes in the European Union which has chosen to be part of the exclusive European Masters in Translation (EMT) Network
  

• All translation students will have the opportunity to work towards Chartered Institute of Linguists' accreditation - highly recognised in the translation sector

• We are a corporate member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (ITI) and organise regular joint events with the West Midlands ITI group

• We are a member of the National Network for Translation - Routes into Languages

• All undergraduate programmes feature an integrated Year Abroad which can be spent working in a translation company

• Teaching is conducted by research experts with international reputations in their fields

• Our researchers have published in leading academic journals and with top academic publishers

• Teaching benefits from input from professional translators and representatives from the translation industry. Outstanding students receive a prize from The Translation People.

Our programmes

• Undergraduate programmes - combine Translation Studies with one or two modern languages to gain your Honours degree
  
• Postgraduate taught programmes - we offer a range of Postgraduate programmes in Translation Studies, which can be combined with our Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL)
  
• Postgraduate research - we also support translation research students in subject areas including translation & politics, translation & advertising, corpora for translation, translation & intercultural communication and translation didactics.
