Sociology & public policy

The Sociology and Public Policy subject group brings together all Undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes and research activities in the field. Our dynamic team of academics engage in innovative research in the areas of inequality, diversity and social justice, public discourse and public policy and governance. Our courses, which focus on the iimmediate locality and developments in global society reflect these research interests.

Highlights of the subject group include:

• A score of 22 out of a possible 24 in the recent Teaching Quality Assessment exercise - demonstrating our outstanding reputation for teaching quality

• Innovative integration of our high-profile research into teaching, for example in the areas of climate change and white working-class identities

• All undergraduate programmes feature an integrated Year Abroad - in either the public or private sector
  

• Strong track record of graduate employment success - Undergraduate programmes ranked 3rd in the UK (out of over 90 Universities) for job prospects

• High levels of student satisfaction - scoring 4th in the UK in last National Student Survey

• Innovative teaching methods that enable students to reflect on their immediate surroundings and everyday lives

Our programmes

• Undergraduate programmes - choose to study sociology or public policy as a Single Honours programme or combine it with an additional subject, such as a modern language
