Our Politics and International Relations subject group (PIR) is home to the Aston Centre for Europe (ACE), which brings together research in the field of European Studies under the following headings:
- Economic and Social transformation in Europe
- Nations and Europe, Europe and the World
- The challenge of security, freedom and justice
- Leadership and governance.
ACE aims to raise the University's profile on Europe at local, national and international level and to this end, it hosts high-profile visiting speakers, runs an innovative and vocationally-oriented double MA programme with Sciences-Po Lille and facilitates new research across the University.
Members of PIR are internationally-recognised experts across political science and international relations, including German and French politics, political philosophy, leadership studies, EU studies, regional politics, and religion and politics. We collaborate closely with other researchers within Aston and at other universities both in United Kingdom and overseas. The School provides an excellent research environment with dedicated facilities for research students. Prospective PhD applicants are therefore welcomed and encouraged to contact the members of staff listed below for further advice before formal application.
