Welcome to the online pages of the Politics and International Relations (PIR) academic subject group within Aston's School of Languages and Social Sciences.

Highlights of the subject group include:

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate teaching and research in all areas of politics and international relations, including European integration, conflict resolution, leadership, regions, religion & politics and immigration
  • PIR is home to the Aston Centre for Europe and therefore has one of the largest concentration of expertise on Europe in the UK
  • A score of 22 out of a possible 24 in the recent Teaching Quality Assessment exercise - demonstrating our outstanding reputation for teaching quality
  • All undergraduate programmes feature an integrated Year Abroad
  • First-class facilities featuring recently refurbished teaching rooms.  
  • Double MA in Europe and the World - an exciting Postgraduate programme, jointly run with the Institut d’Etudes Politiques Lille, offering students an exceptional opportunity to pursue a Double Masters in the area of European Studies with a vocational focus on the EU
