English Studies

Highlights of the subject group include:

• Our Undergraduate Programmes include Single Honours English and Joint and Combined programmes with a wide number of subjects

• Our forensic linguists provide consultancy nationally and internationally to investigators and defence teams

• Our distance learning provision provides opportunities for PhD research and masters level studies in Applied Linguistics, Forensic Linguistics and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.) We also offer a Certificate in Advanced Studies in ELT by distance learning. 

• Our English language training centre offers pre-sessional language support and IELTS preparation for hundreds of overseas students each academic year

• We have large numbers of Junior Year Abroad students whose  programmes include English language support as well as access to modules from across the school

• The Aston Corpus Network provides parallel corpora (collections of electronic text) across four languages and access to political and social science writings
