Dr Uwe Schütte has been a Lecturer in German at Aston since 1999. His PhD thesis is on Gerhard Roth’s 'Archive des Schweigens‹ was supervised by W.G. Sebald and appeared in 1997. In 2006 he published an extensive study on "Die Poetik des Extremen" from Heinrich von Kleist to Rainald Goetz. He is a Fellow of the Humboldt Foundation and received a Humboldt research grant from 2008-2009 which enabled him to complete the first ever monograph on the prose writings of Heiner Müller, which is being published under the title "Zum Eigensinn der Prosa Heiner Müllers" by Universitätsverlag C. Winter in 2010. In addition, he has written general introductions to the works of Heiner Müller, Thomas Bernhard and W.G. Sebald, as well as editing a volume of poetry by the schizophrenic writer Edmund Mach. A book-length essay on the cultural anthropological dimension of Heiner Müller’s works is in print and he is currently working on a comprehensive study of the critical writings of W.G. Sebald. Forthcoming book projects include an introduction to the life and works of Gerhard Roth and an in-depth cultural history of the band Kraftwerk.
