This workshop event covers the ground you need to teach pupils in order for them to understand the grammar and grammatical terminology required by the Key Stage 2 grammar test. Through practical, group based exercises, you will gain a grounding in modern approaches to the study of grammar.

The workshop is led by Dr Urszula Clark. Dr Clark is Reader in English within the School of Languages and Social Sciences at Aston. She was a teacher before becoming a lecturer, and has many years’ experience of teaching grammar at secondary level, to students following undergraduate degrees in English and English Language and most recently, presenting at CPD events on grammar to teachers of Key Stages 2 and 3.
Dr Garry Plappert is a Lecturer in English at Aston University. In addition to his BA, MPhil and PhD qualifications in English Language, Garry has a PGCE in English and has experience of teaching English at Primary and Secondary level, from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5. Garry taught introductory level grammar to undergraduates at the University of Birmingham for several years and now teaches functional grammar to all students taking the MA in Applied Linguistics or MA in TESOL at Aston University.
Dr Jack Grieve is a Lecturer in Forensic Linguistic within the School of Languages and Social Sciences at Aston University. He teaches the first-year English grammar module at Aston and conducts research on grammatical variation. He also consults on criminal cases as a member of the Centre for Forensic Linguistics at Aston University.
