David Harley was appointing Visiting Practitioner Fellow at ACE in
September 2010. Previously he had worked for thirty-five years as an EU
official in the European Parliament, occupying several senior posts including
Adviser to the President, Adviser to the Secretary-General, Spokesman of the
President and Director of Press and Media, and Secretary-General of the Parliamentary
Group of the Party of European Socialists. His final post before retiring in
March 2010 was Deputy Secretary-General of the European Parliament and
Director-General of the Presidency.
In February 2011 David was appointed Chairman of Burson-Marsteller
Brussels.
In The Queen's Birthday Honours list in June 2011 he was appointed CMG
(Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George) for services to
international diplomacy and UK-European Parliament relations.
David has a degree in Modern Languages from the University of Cambridge
and speaks French, Italian, Spanish and German.
