Birmingham Central Library

This is one of the largest public libraries in Europe, and is open for use by everyone. The reference collection of books and periodicals covers seven floors, and includes The Science Library, Social Sciences, Arts, Languages and Literature, Local Studies and History and Birmingham City Archives. A large collection of British and US patents are available, plus CD-ROM databases for searching the collection.

Business Insight, near the entrance to the Library, is a good source of directories and company annual reports. Internet access throughout the Library is free and the Learning Centre offers a variety of programs.

The Library also has approximately 1000 study spaces, with 25 private study booths, which can be booked in advance. You can also borrow from the Lending and Music Libraries after a simple registration.

You will need to show proof of your name, home and temporary addresses to obtain a library card, which can then be used at any public library in Birmingham.

The Birmingham Libraries Catalogue gives details of books, music, CDs, videos, DVDs and software that are available in Birmingham libraries.
