Using Other Libraries

Aston students are able to use other academic libraries within the UK via a scheme called SCONUL Access.  SCONUL Access is a reciprocal service supported by most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland.

How to register for SCONUL Access membership

To join SCONUL Access you will need to fill in an application form, and take it to the Enquiries desk at your home library (Aston) where it will be signed and approved.  Application forms are also available from the Library Enquiries desk.  Aston will issue you with a SCONUL Access card which you can use to register at other university libraries (remember to take your Aston card with you too).  Check the SCONUL website for any further conditions of registration at the library you wish to attend.

What to expect from your SCONUL Access membership

Becoming a member of another university library will not normally mean that you get the same privileges as the university’s own staff and students, and the number of books you can borrow will vary.  You will be assigned to a SCONUL Access band, depending on your status and this will determine your borrowing rights.  Full time undergraduate students only have reference access to SCONUL Access member libraries.
