Borrowing information

The Library has a range of materials which you can borrow for different loan periods.  All books held in the Library can be found by doing a keyword or title search using the Library catalogue.  If you cannot find a particular item, either ask at the Help desk or if the book is out on loan, then reserve it for yourself using the Library catalogue.  If you need help with understanding the classification system to locate books on the shelves, then see our video guide.

Remember that if you do not return a book on time you will get a fine so look out for email notifications of when your books are due back.  You always have the option to renew your books using the Library Catalogue providing it has not been reserved by someone else.  Please note that during the Christmas and Easter vacation periods, normal loan periods apply.  This means that you will need to renew books that are due back during the vacation period.  If you are not able to renew books because they have been reserved by another library user, then you will need to return them by post.  No books will be due back during Library closed days, but fines will be incurred for late return.

You will find a selection of high-demand reading list items in the Short Loan Collection on the ground floor of the Library.  If you have reserved a book and it is placed on hold for you, then you can find this in the Reservations and Short Loan Collection on the ground floor also.

The self-service facilities enable you to borrow and return books, including short loan and reserved items, even when the Help desk is closed.  If you need help with using the self-service system see our video guide

If you are a part time student, a distance learner, on your placement or have a disability or additional need, you can ask the Library staff to post books out to you.

You will need your uniCARD each time you come to the Library, but if you ever lose your card or any other personal property please let us know immediately.
