You are expected to search for and collect books from the shelves yourself.
To find out what books, journals ,reports etc. the Library holds use the Library catalogue. You can search the Library catalogue online or use one of the dedicated computers on each floor of the library.
On the Ground Floor of the Library there is a Help desk where you can get help.
To borrow a book you take it to one of the Self Service Machines on the Ground Floor. Select Issue or Return from the display screen. If there is a problem please go to theHelp desk where Library Staff will be pleased to help you.
Books are borrowed for a fixed period called a ‘loan period’. You must bring books back by the due date shown on your receipt.
We send e-mails to your Aston e-mail account. Please check it regularly. This is where you will receive reminders that your books are due to be returned, notices about reserved books etc.
Return books at a Self Service Machine, following the instructions on screen.
If you do not return your books on time you will be charged a fine.
If no one else wants the book you can keep it longer by ‘renewing it’. Log into ‘My Library Record’ on the Library Catalogue using your network username and password.
If the book you want is out on loan you can reserve it via the catalogue. When it is available you will receive an e-mail telling you how to collect it.
If you have borrowed a long loan book and another reader wants it, you will be given a new due date. It is important that you return the book by the new date
