There are silent, private and group study areas within the building, all of which are accessible to wheelchair users. If you are registered with DANU (Disability and Additional Needs Unit), this will be indicated on your Library record so that you can get extended loans automatically.
Ground floor study rooms
There are 2 rooms specifically designated for users with a disability or additional need on the ground floor of the Library. The rooms are accessible for wheelchair users and are regularly used by students working with their study support worker or in a small group. If you are registered with DANU you can use these rooms by swiping in with your University ID card.
Equipment
One of the ground floor study rooms is equipped with the following:
- computers with large monitors, that also have assistive software installed
- a workstation on a height-adjustable table
- scanners
- daylight lamp
- CCTV magnification system that allows you to magnify the text or images of books and journals to allow easier reading. The CCTV can also underline text on the screen and change the background colours to make it clearer to read.
- tinted overlays to aid reading of books and journals, by providing better contrast
There are also height adustable desks and chairs in both computer labs on the ground floor.
Learning Development Centre (LDC)
Expert advice is also available for students using or requiring adaptive software and technologies. At the LDC Reception desk, you can arrange to meet the University’s Assistive Technology Officer for help with equipment or software.
